Design and Construction
What
is the difference between an Omega WallbedTM
and a Murphy Bed?
A Murphy bed consists of a metal framework
that is secured to the floor and folds up into a cabinet
or closet. Omega WallbedsTM
consist of a well crafted wooden bed box that hold the mattress
and foundation utilizing a high end spring loaded mechanism
that is mounted to the cabinetry or sides of the wallbed
system. The wallbed unit is securely attached to studs in
the wall thereby causing no damage to the hardwood or cement
floor of the home.

How
much customer design preferences factor into an Omega WallbedTM
system?

How
custom is “custom”? Am I limited to specific
sizes or cabinet arrangements?
Since we build to standard bedding
sizes, the only size constraints are the dimensions of the
wallbed. All other components are built to fit your specifications
and the amount of space you wish to occupy.

What size beds do you make?
We offer Twin, Double (Full)
and Queen size wallbeds.

makes the mechanism so special? Is it hydraulic or spring
loaded?
Omega WallbedsTM
utilize a high end spring mechanism which uses the weight
of the mattress to assist to open and close the wallbed
easily. Our models also include a leg bar which
not only holds the mattress in place while the bed is up,
it also allows for the simultaneous movement of both legs
when lowering the bed.

What
preparations are necessary prior to delivery and installation
of our wallbed system?
Our installers are equipped to install
and do limited modifications to the wallbed system, but
are not equipped to handle any major remodeling or rewiring.
The room where the wallbed is to be installed should be

installation, any pets you do not wish to escape to the
outside should be secured.

Bedding
How
comfortable is the wallbed?
Our standard mattress is a mid-firm
quality mattress suitable for everyday use. Since our mattresses
provide superior comfort over a fold-out bed, your guests
may choose to extend their stay with you.
[Top]
Does
Omega WallbedsTM use standard
sized mattresses and box springs
The mattresses in all Omega Wallbeds
are locally made standard sized mattresses. Instead of a
box spring, we use a smaller foundation that provides support
for the mattress and distributes the weight over the bedface.
[Top]
Can
I use my own mattress?
While we offer comfortable bedding
with all our wallbeds, you are not obligated to purchase
our mattresses. Since our wallbeds are built to standard
size bedding, we can utilize an existing mattress or you
may purchase one separately.
[Top]
If
I buy my own mattress, are there any restrictions?
Our wallbeds are built assuming
both mattress and foundation attain an overall height of
11½”. If your mattress exceeds 7 ½”,
(i.e. pillow-tops), we can adjust the depth of the wallbed
unit to accommodate the increased height. The mattress height
can be verified at the time we measure the room.

Operation / Function
How
easy is it to open and close the bed
The mechanism used on all Omega
WallbedsTM
provides sufficient support to allow one handed operation
to open and close the wallbed easily. Our installers will
adjust the mechanism to suit your personal needs.

Can
I use the bed every day?
The construction of the wallbed,
the reliability of the mechanism and the comfort of the
mattress combine to make the wallbed suitable for everyday
use: an excellent solution for maximizing the space in studio
apartments.
[Top]
Can
I leave the bed made and still close the bed?
The bed can be left made up with
sheets and a light blanket and still close without any problems.
Pillows and thick comforters should be removed prior to
closing in order to prevent problems with the headboard
and the wall.
